Description
In many ways, Bernstein's A Primer on Money, Banking, and Gold can be seen as one long preface to his bestselling The Power of Gold. In A Primer on Money, Banking, and Gold, Bernstein writes "What has gold to do with money anyway? Where did Americans find enough money to write checks adding up to nearly four trillion dollars during 1963? Did the Government print it all?" Here, he discusses the link that still exists between our money and gold and why. He also goes into detail about banking (both the history and business of banking) and the role the Federal Reserve plays in regulating the supply of money. He includes two "case studies" at the end, one detailing the financial playing field between 1938 and 1945 and the other detailing the economy after the war.
