This introductory text includes a wide selection of interesting mathematical topics and real world applications and engages students in doing mathematics themselves through well-chosen examples and exercises. The topics are either very applied so that students can appreciate their practicality or simply display the beauty and fun of mathematics. Students understand the concepts going beyond just the numbers. Mathematical problem solving skills are taught through examples so that students can carry out what they learn. This is accomplished by including a much more extensive and varied collection of exercises than are found in many liberal arts mathematics texts. This text can be used in a freshman/sophomore level, 1 or 2 semester course in Liberal Arts Mathematics. It is appropriate for both two- and four-year schools.
