- Integration of theory and practice. the example that is carried throughout the book, the use of DSS to facilitate car purchases, helps create a link between the theory and practice of DSS.
- Focus on the "Big Picture": The representation throughout the book focuses on "generic" DSS which allows discussion of design issues without concern for whether it is a group system, an organizational system or an individual system.
- Integration of Expert Systems: this book does not address expert systems as a topic separate from
decision support systems. There are special topics for those who want to build the intelligence. These are covered in a supplement to Chapter 4.
