This technical mathematics with calculus text presents material either graphically, analytically, or numerically (sometimes using more than one approach) depending on which seems the most appropriate. Presentation of material encourages an intuitive approach to learning rather than an overly-rigorous one. Text is supported by strong exercise sets and real world, technical applications that are considered the backbone of the text. Technology is fully integrated into problem sets and examples. Students are encouraged to use graphing calculators and computer algebra systems to solve problems and verify "the reasonableness" of their solutions. Writing exercises and group projects to support in-class collaboration round out the text. Fourth edition was revised according to improvements suggested by reviewers and colleagues. Revisions follow guidelines and standards set forth by AMATYC and NCTM. This text can be used in a one or two semester course. It is appropriate for primarily two year technical/trade schools and community colleges. However, the text can also be used in some four year state schools.
