Description
This book is based on the author's courses on lasers and photonics, which he has taught for 15 years to undergraduate physics and engineering majors.  The book is aimed at a one-semester first course for physics and engineering majors.  Unlike existing texts, this book takes account of the mathematical capabilities of undergraduate students.  At the same time, the author focuses on devices and physical interpretations rather than mathematical developments.  This makes it possible to offer students an introduction to these technologies early in a substantive way.

The book fills an important gap in the existing curriculum; while photonics and laser technologies have become ubiquitous in communications, imaging, and signal processing systems, existing textbooks are mostly aimed at graduate-level students.

An Instructor's Manual presenting detailed solutions to all the problems in the book is available from the Wiley editorial department.
