The purpose of this publication is to explore the meaning of cultural competence in the field of health education and health promotion, to explore state-of-the-art cultural competence training, to examine best practice models for cultural competence in health education, and to assist professionals and students reach diverse populations while avoiding generalizations and stereotypes based on race, ethnicity, gender, and selected social issues.
This publication will be useful for undergraduate and graduate students in the field of health education and health promotion as well as nursing and other allied health fields. In addition, this publication will be helpful for practitioners in the field of health education and promotion.
This publication could be used as the primary textbook for courses designed to explore ethnic and cultural factors influencing the health status among racial/ethnic groups in the U.S., and the practical skills that the health educator can use to help address these disparities.
