Got Grammar? is a practical, useful guide to teaching and reinforcing grammar, usage, and mechanics in today’s world of standardized testing. The resource, which offers helpful teaching instruction as well as scores of reproducible activities, is divided into six sections: Grammar; Usage; Sentence Structure; Mechanics; Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics Games; and Meeting the Tests Head-On.
Each section contains teaching pages that define, explain, and illustrate grammar, usage, or mechanics concepts; these teaching pages are followed by at least one ready-to-use activity page to reinforce the idea. All activities have answer keys and “On Your Own” self-check features for students to grade their own work. Included among the activities are riddles, quotations, crossword puzzles, word finds, magic squares, and other games to make learning grammar fun for kids. The writing activities mirror the types of prompts, assignments, and activities found on statewide and national tests. Specific concept quizzes and unit final exams are included at the end of each section. This ready-to-use combination of learning, assessment, and fun makes the resource both educational and enjoyable.
Got Grammar? serves the needs of both the busy grades 6-12 English Language Arts teacher and the students well. The clear and concise teaching pages, the ready-to-use activities, and the answer keys to all the activities will save teachers many hours of preparation. Additionally, the book teaches, reinforces, tests, and prepares students for success on classroom, state, national, and other standardized English exams. Lastly, the fun and interesting activities and games that accompany the teaching pages will reinforce the grammar, usage, and mechanics concepts and make the students’ learning process an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.
