Description
This book, the result of the educational programming offered by The Second City Training Centers in Chicago and Toronto, offers educators of all content areas a wide variety of lessons and strategies that connect improvisational exercises to teaching through practical examples of kinesthetic and authentic learning activities. While other books have linked drama to classroom teaching, none have focused on improvisation.

The majority of the book will detail a variety of specific improvisational exercises and specific sample lessons showing how these exercises may adapted for specific K-8 classroom learning experiences.  The exercises apply mainly to language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, and use improv to teach content, build classroom community, and develop cooperative learning skills.

Descriptions of improvisational activities will be followed with examples of specific lessons that classroom teachers have developed at Second City’s professional development workshops. The lesson plans incorporate strategies and elements of curriculum differentiation, the theory of multiple intelligences, and current methodology in “best practices” for classroom learning. All of the lessons are linked to current National Standards for the United States and Canada.
