Wiley and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Collaborate on DVD for Higher Education Market
Hoboken, NJ, January 5, 2004
Bruce M. Spatz, Vice President & Executive Publisher, Higher Education, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., announced today a partnership with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), a leading professional society supporting manufacturing education, to develop content that brings real world manufacturing into the academic classroom. Through an exclusive agreement, Wiley and SME have adapted material from the highly acclaimed SME Fundamental Manufacturing Processes video series and are distributing it on DVD with Wiley manufacturing texts. The DVD contains video clips shot at actual manufacturing plants, highlighting some of the most important manufacturing processes and topics.
"Wiley's partnership with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in creating the Fundamental Manufacturing Processes DVD supports our mission to create high-quality, value-added learning materials that help teachers teach and students learn," said Mr. Spatz. "By adapting clips from SME's instructive video series and putting them on DVD, students are now able to visualize important concepts discussed in Wiley textbooks," he added.
Said Ed McCallum, managing director, SME Commercial Business Operations, "This new DVD showcases SME's Fundamentals of Manufacturing Processes series we initiated in 1995. SME offers more than 35 full-length programs with 15 hours of instructional videos on a wide-range of manufacturing processes topics including metalforming, plastics, die-casting, and assembly to name a few – all designed to help the manufacturing industry in their training initiatives and the educational community with demonstrations in the classroom."
The Fundamental Manufacturing Processes DVD is available now and accompanies Wiley's manufacturing process titles, Groover, Fundamentals of Modern Manufacturing- Materials, Process and Systems 2e and Degarmo/Black/Kohser, Materials and Processes in Manufacturing 9e. The topics covered in the DVD are: Machining Processes, Plastic Processes, Forming Processes, and Additional Processes.
