Society of Plastics Engineers to Publish With Wiley

Brookfield, CT & Hoboken, NJ, January 26, 2004—  The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) and John Wiley & Sons, Inc., announced today that they have joined in a publishing partnership, effective January 2004.

Under the agreement, Wiley will provide all publishing services for SPE's Technical Journals—Polymer Engineering & Science, Polymer Composites, and Journal of Vinyl & Additive Technology—including online editions of the Journals available through Wiley InterScience (http://www.interscience.wiley.com). Wiley will in addition provide a digital archive for the Journals. SPE retains ownership and editorial control under the agreement.

"SPE is proud of the distinguished history of its Technical Journals, and the esteem accorded them by polymer scientists," says Susan Oderwald, SPE's Deputy Executive Director. "This new relationship with Wiley is the next step in their evolution. Subscribers and authors will realize the immediate benefits of Wiley's online distribution, content-searching ability, and speed of publication. This is publishing for the twenty-first century."

Patrick Kelly, Wiley Vice President and Publishing Director, Global Materials Science, says, "We are delighted that the SPE has chosen Wiley as its publishing partner. Wiley's presence in polymer science publishing is already strong. This partnership will enhance our ability to serve the polymer community. We look forward to working with the Society and its membership to further develop the position and profile of the Society's journals."

Polymer Engineering & Science, published monthly, has for more than 40 years been one of the most highly regarded journals in its field, serving as a forum for authors of treatises on the cutting edge of polymer science and technology. Editor-in-Chief Robert A. Weiss of the University of Connecticut oversees a publication dedicated to providing engineers, researchers, technicians, and academicians worldwide with the valuable information they need.

Polymer Composites, a bimonthly publication, is a journal serving the fields of reinforced plastics and polymer composites, including research, production, processing, and applications. Edited by Alan J. Lesser of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, PC publishes developments in this rapidly expanding area of technology before they are commercial realities.

Journal of Vinyl & Additive Technology is a quarterly, peer-reviewed technical publication for new work in the fields of polymer modifiers and additives and vinyl polymers. Over half of all papers in JVAT are based on technology of additives and modifiers for all classes of polymers. Editor-in-Chief William H. Starnes, Jr., of the College of William and Mary, supervises the journal.

The Society of Plastics Engineers, Inc. (SPE) is the premier source of peer-reviewed technical information for plastics professionals. Originally incorporated in 1942, today SPE every day takes action to help companies in the plastics industry succeed by spreading knowledge, strengthening skills and promoting plastics. Employing these vital strategies, SPE has helped the plastics industry thrive for over 60 years. SPE has become the recognized medium of communication among scientists, engineers and technical personnel engaged in the development, conversion and applications of plastics.
