Wiley Canada Named One of the "Best Workplaces in Canada" by Canadian Business Magazine

Hoboken, N.J., April 27, 2006—  Global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE: JWa) (NYSE: JWb), announced today that its Canadian subsidiary, John Wiley & Sons Canada Ltd., has been named to the 2006 list of the "Best Workplaces in Canada," by Canadian Business magazine. The list and related stories appeared in the April 10th issue of Canadian Business magazine (http://www.canadianbusiness.com). Wiley was one of two publishing companies to be named to this inaugural list.

"We are honored that Canadian Business magazine has recognized Wiley as one of the 'Best Workplaces in Canada,'" said Wiley's President and CEO William J. Pesce. "Wiley Canada, like all of our global businesses, supports an open and collaborative culture that values colleagues as human beings first, professionals second."

William Zerter, Chief Operating Officer, John Wiley & Sons Canada Ltd., said, "We are very proud to be named to this prestigious list. It speaks not only to the efforts that Wiley has made locally and worldwide to build an excellent workplace environment, but also to the care and friendship that exists between our colleagues."

This list of "Best Workplaces in Canada" is compiled for Canadian Business magazine by the Great Place to Work® Institute in Canada. The selection process is based on two criteria: responses to an employee survey and results from an external review of organizational culture. Two-thirds of the total score comes from a 57-statement survey completed by a random selection of employees. Organizations are scored in five basic areas: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie. The remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organizations culture including an evaluation of HR policies and procedures. Wiley Canada ranked #30 on the list. More than 20,000 employees participated in this first annual survey.

The Great Place to Work Institute Model has served as the basis for FORTUNE magazine's groundbreaking annual list of the "100 Best Companies to Work For in America," since 1998, and is now used in 28 other countries around the world. For two consecutive years (2005 and 2006) Wiley has been named on FORTUNE magazine's list of "100 Best Companies to Work For" in America. Wiley's Canadian subsidiary now shares this distinction.

Wiley has had publishing operations in Canada since 1968. The Toronto-based subsidiary publishes indigenous products for the Canadian higher education and professional and trade markets, as well as markets and distributes U.S. higher education, professional and trade and scientific, technical and medical products.
