Wiley and Duodecim Expand Publishing Agreement for Evidence-Based Medicine Guidelines
Chichester, England, May 10, 2006
John Wiley & Sons, Ltd., part of U.S.-based publishers, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., and Duodecim Medical Publications Limited of Helsinki, Finland announced today that they have expanded an agreement to grant Wiley the exclusive publishing, sales, and distribution rights of its Evidence-Based Medicine Guidelines (EBM Guidelines) in print and electronic format, in the English language throughout the world, with the exception of Finland. This expanded, multi-year agreement builds on a previous relationship that began when the companies co-published the print version of Evidence-Based Medicine Guidelines in 2005.
EBM Guidelines is a continuously updated collection of concise and easy-to-use clinical guidelines developed by experienced general practitioners in cooperation with specialists for use by general practitioners and other primary care physicians in making clinical decisions. The collection, which has been in clinical use for over 17 years, includes 1,000 primary care practice guidelines; over 2,500 evidence summaries supporting the given recommendations; and hundreds of high-quality photographs.
Specifically designed to be read on small screens, the guidelines are available via the Internet (http://www.ebm-guidelines.com/ebmg/ltk.koti) and through Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) devices. Wiley plans to make EBM Guidelines accessible to customers through its online publishing platform Wiley InterScience (http://www.interscience.wiley.com) on May 24, 2006.
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to expand our partnership with Duodecim and to broaden Wiley's evidence-based medicine publishing program," said Deborah Dixon, Editorial & Business Development Director for Health Sciences, at John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. "These important references will help to fulfill the critical need for point of care information used by primary care physicians and general practitioners around the world."
In recent years, Wiley has enhanced its Health Sciences Publishing Program to encompass Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM), which has become a necessary resource for practitioners in the field. In 2003, Wiley entered into a publishing partnership with the renowned Cochrane Collaboration to deliver The Cochrane Library, and last year the company acquired InfoPOEM Inc., a web-based provider of EBM content and search tools.
"We are confident that with Wiley's global editorial and distribution capabilities Evidence-Based Medicine Guidelines will reach an even greater number of professionals in the medical and healthcare community," said Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Ilkka Kunnamo at Duodecim Medical Publications, Limited.
