Wiley-Blackwell and JoVE Unveil Groundbreaking Online Video Publications
Hoboken, N.J., February 20, 2008
Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE: JWa), (NYSE: JWb), and the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE), today announced that they signed an agreement for the production of online video publications. The purpose of the partnership is to integrate biological research video into the leading Wiley-Blackwell publication, Current Protocols.
According to Rachel Burley, Vice President and Publisher at Current Protocols, the partnership aims to enhance articles published in Current Protocols with video demonstrations of experimental procedures to increase their reproducibility.
“One picture is worth a thousand words. Demonstration of biological research experiments on video will show exactly how these experiments are performed. This will increase reproducibility of experimental studies across all the fields of biological and biomedical research,” she added.
According to the agreement, Current Protocols will use its large database to identify research labs with the most advanced state-of-the art experimental approaches for filming and video publication produced by JoVE. During the first year of the collaborative work, the two companies plan to produce and publish 200 experimental videos online.
Moshe Pritsker, CEO and a co-founder of JoVE, emphasized the importance of the collaboration with Wiley-Blackwell. “JoVE was founded a year ago to address one of the most difficult ‘bottleneck’ problems in life sciences, reproducibility and transparency of the experimental research, using online video. This collaboration with Wiley-Blackwell will allow us to attain our goal of providing a comprehensive resource for this rapidly changing field.”
“Combining a traditional model of scientific publishing and new Internet technologies is producing a strong synergetic effect,” said Ms. Burley. “The result will be the creation of a new highly-valuable resource that will help scientists involved in the basic academic research and drug discovery.”
