Wiley-Blackwell Partners with The Cognitive Science Society

Malden, MA, May 13, 2008—  Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc (NYSE: JWa), (NYSE: JWb), today announced it has formed a publishing partnership with the Cognitive Science Society to publish their flagship journal, Cognitive Science, and to launch a new journal, Topics in Cognitive Science.  Both journals aim to bring together researchers from a broad range of fields who are dedicated to understanding the nature of the human mind.

Cognitive Science, which publishes articles in all areas of cognitive science, such as knowledge representation, memory processes, natural language understanding, brain theory, motor control, and other areas of interdisciplinary research, has been the premier journal in the discipline of cognitive science for the past 30 years.

In partnership with Wiley-Blackwell, the Cognitive Science Society will also launch Topics in Cognitive Science, an innovative new journal that will focus on emerging areas in cognitive science, such as cognitive modeling, cognitive anthropology, and cognitive science and philosophy.  The publication will feature multiple scholarly papers dedicated to a single topic. Some of these topics will appear together in one issue, but other topics may appear across several issues. However, the format and origin of the topics will vary greatly. The journal will publish its first issue in 2009.

“We are excited about partnering with Wiley-Blackwell. We look forward to working with such an innovative publisher who can help us develop strategies to expand our global reach,” said Thomas Ward, Executive Officer, Cognitive Science Society. “Together we are well positioned to launch a new journal that will provide an in depth snapshot of the issues, progress, and problems that the field of cognitive science is confronting.”

Wiley-Blackwell is already established as a leading publisher of psychology journals and books. This society partnership enhances the company’s prominent list of partnerships including the Association for Psychological Science, Society for Research in Child Development, and the British Psychological Society. Wiley-Blackwell also publishes more ISI ranked journals than any other commercial publisher in Applied, Developmental and Social Psychology.

“We are delighted to be partnering with the Cognitive Society, the premier society in cognitive science,” said Philip Carpenter, Managing Director, Social Sciences and Humanities, Wiley-Blackwell. “As a respected publisher in many areas of cognitive science content, we can provide the support, services and expertise required to help them grow their publishing program further.”
